The XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology in 2014

The ISA World Congress of Sociology will be held on 2014 in Yokohama, Japan.

"In the less than 150 years since the port opened to foreign trade, Yokohama has been transformed to become Japan's second largest city, with a population of 3.6 million and a culture distinct from that of neighboring Tokyo.

Its history has left it with a unique and attractive cityscape and variety of local resources that include the historical buildings around the port and the port scenery. These attract large numbers of Yokohama residents and tourists, and have also nurtured diverse arts and cultures.

Yokohama has long been active in urban design and in addition to establishing the city's distinctive identity, has become home to many cultural figures and artists, providing the foundation for the keen pursuit of art and culture by the city's residents and NPOs...."
